The atmospheric river that’s taking aim at California is drenching the Bay Area Thursday morning.

Periods of moderate to locally heavy rainfall will continue through this afternoon with windy conditions and the possibility of thunderstorms.

The rain will make for a messy morning commute. Drivers are advised to be extra cautious and slow down.

Breezy to locally gusty southerly winds will also be possible ahead of a cold front that will sweep through the region Thursday morning.

After a brief break in rainfall later today, additional showers and cooler temperatures will be possible from Friday into the weekend before dry conditions return next week.
