The Oakland Athletics have their sights set on making the area near Jack London Square, known as the Howard Terminal, Major League Baseball’s next waterfront baseball park.
But opposition is growing from those who work at the Port of Oakland.
The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association and the San Francisco Bar Pilots Association are raising the flags saying the stadium and proposed housing will mess up shipping and loading schedules, clog streets around the port, and blind container ship pilots trying to turn around long vessels at night.
Fans aren’t surprised by the backlash but those who work at the port say a stadium here would not be best and create traffic problems in areas like this where there is already heavy traffic.
A’s President Dave Kaval addressed the traffic concerns with KRON4 on Wednesday.
Kaval also addressed pilot concerns from those that would have to navigate longships through the water on eye level with the stadium lights.
Many fans of the Oakland A’s have strong opinions about what should happen.
