San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon will miss the remainder of preseason after suffering from a right high calf strain in last Sunday’s practice.
49ers General Manager John Lynch confirmed McKinnon will be out until Week 1 on KNBR Friday morning.
Running back Matt Breida is also injured.
The team signed Alfred Morris this week to add depth the running backs group.
The 49ers acquired McKinnon over the offseason through free agency. He signed a four-year 30 million dollar contract.
“The good news is it’s not going to be long-term, the bad news is it’s going to take him up to Week 1, our opener, so his opportunity to get more in rhythm in our system, that kind of goes out the door,” Lynch told KNBR.
“But he’s played a lot of football, and we play a lot of football in the offseason, OTAs and all that, so we’re going to have to trust that he’s going to be ready.”
Team is preparing for 2nd preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Texans were without their quarterback DeShaun Watson last season when the 49ers and Texans played December 2017.
The 49ers are 1-0 so far this preseason.
