(WFLA) – Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog that won the 2018 World’s Ugliest Dog contest last month, has died at the age of 9.
Zsa Zsa’s owner, Megan Brainard of Minnesota, told TODAY that the dog died in her sleep early Tuesday morning.
TODAY reports that Zsa Zsa was staying at Brainard’s dad’s house while Brainard and her husband visited a relative in the hospital.
Brainard says her dog’s death is devastating, and told TODAY she and her family held a special farewell for Zsa Zsa.
Just two weeks ago, Zsa Zsa was crowned the winner of the annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest.
According to the contest website, Zsa Zsa was a puppy mill dog for 5 years and was later purchased by a rescue at a dog auction. The Associated Press reports Brainard then found Zsa Zsa on a pet-finding site.
