FAIRFIELD (KRON) — A Maremma Sheepdog just broke the California and world record for the largest litter of puppies ever recorded for its own breed, according to a Fairfield owner.

John Costanzo, sent us an adorable picture Monday afternoon of his 17 puppies living in one litter to local organic farm in Fairfield. Costanzo shared that Maremma Sheepdogs which are usually referred to as just Maremmano, is a breed of livestock guardian dogs who are indigenous to central Italy.

Sheep-farming has decreased substantially and according to Costanzo his Sheepdog protects his organic farm and livestock.

Sheep herding remains vital to the rural economy.

After having 17 puppies and still taking care of the farm he calls his Sheepdog a “Champ”.

“Our vet was Barney and Russum Animal Clinic they will confirm the delivery. You can visit the puppies at our farm where we raise beyond organic responsible meat. Come to the farm and check them out if you are in the area,” Costanzo said.
