RICHMOND (KRON) — Fire crews were called to the scene of a major water main break in Richmond Monday morning.

The break was reported at about 11:00 a.m. in a residential area on Hazel Ave. and Sonoma St. Fire Capt. Rico Rincon tells KRON 4 “quite a lot of water” was coming from the ground.

Work crews with the East Bay Municipal Utility District arrived on scene a short time later. District officials say service was disrupted to nine customers in the area. EBMUD says the break happened on a six inch cast iron main.

Fire crews helped control traffic in the area, which saw a lot of flooding. Residents were seen out on the street with buckets, scooping up the water and using it for their plants.
