HALF MOON BAY (KRON) — Work crews on Tuesday spent hours at the site of a water main break in Half Moon Bay.

The break was reported at about 10 a.m. at Terrace Ave. near Golden Gate Ave. But the Coastside County Water District tells KRON 4 News that crews have not been able to locate the break as of about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The underground break is causing the road pavement above to lift, which will eventually have to be repaired.

Water district officials say the break could be drought related. As soil drys out, the area around the pipes contracts, putting pressure on the pipes. Officials also say the break happened on one of its older cast iron pipes, estimated to be 50-60 years old. Water officials say the county is in the process of replacing its old cast iron pipes.

It’s unclear how much water has leaked from the break. There’s no word on when the problem will be resolved.
