NORTH CAROLINA (WSPA) — Woodfin Police have released new details in the charges of two teens that went missing, but are now charged in the death of their baby.
The teens missing from Asheville were found safe at a campsite in Pisgah National Forest, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
17-year-old Winston Eccleston and 17-year-old Lacey Mathews were found at a remote campsite in Transylvania County on April 1. Both were in good condition when they were found.
Both were reported missing by a family members on March 11.
Both teens have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse as a result of an ongoing investigation, according to officials with the Woodfin Police Department.
Police says they got a call on March 6 in reference to an infant suffering a medical emergency and they started a criminal investigation.
Police say the missing person reports were filed 5 days later and the got arrest warrants for them on March 29.
Both Eccleston and Mathews were transported to the Buncombe County Detention Center where they are being held on bond.
