FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Authorities say a woman tried to drown and smother her toddler nephew while caring for him in Fayetteville on Saturday.
The incident was reported as an “unconscious juvenile” call on Saturday at a home in the 800 block of Zadock Drive in western, Fayetteville Police said in an email.
“The investigation revealed that Regina Durr was caring for her nephew at a relative’s home and attempted to drown and smother the child,” police said.
The boy is 2 years old, police said.
The child was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and has since been released in good condition, police added.
Regina Durr, 24, was charged with attempted first degree murder and felony child abuse.
Durr remains in the Cumberland County Detention Center tonight on a $500,000 secured bond.
