FREMONT (KRON) — Fremont police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run where a 65-year-old woman was killed near the BART station on Tuesday night, according to police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.
The collision was reported at 9:28 p.m. on Walnut Avenue near the BART station and just east of Civic Center Drive, according to police.
The victim, a 65-year-old Union City resident, was found lying in the eastbound lanes of Walnut Avenue. She was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Her name is not yet being released by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau pending notification of next of kin.
The vehicle that struck the victim was described as a silver or gray SUV or van that was traveling east on Walnut Avenue prior to the collision and fled in the same direction, according to police.
The suspect and vehicle, which may have front-end and passenger side damage, remain at large, police said.
Several witnesses provided statements about the hit-and-run.
