An El Sobrante woman found a surprise in an item she bought at a Richmond Costco the other day–a worm in her salmon.

She was so taken back that she took a video of it.

“I was just grossed out,” Felicia Cipolla said. “I put it back here because I didn’t want it getting into (the) rest of (the) food.”

Cipolla says on Monday night, she and her partner were getting ready to cut up some fish they bought earlier in the day from the Costco store in Richmond, but then, Felicia says she noticed something moving.

She got out her phone and took a video.

“We buy fish occasionally from Costco, but this is the first time a worm in it,” Cipolla said. “And it isn’t your typical worm, parasite. The scary thing about it, it looks similar to bones, and if you are not paying attention, you would just eat it and that is gross.”

In fact, Felicia says she is so grossed out about finding the white parasite, she decided to double bag the wild caught salmon and put it in a refrigerator in the spare room.

“It is definitely not dead,” Cipolla said.

KRON4 reached out to Costco. In response, they sent a leaflet on parasites in marine fish which stated all living organisms, including fish, can have parasites.

The leaflet was written by two UC Davis seafood specialists, and it said that thoroughly cooking the fish would destroy the parasite.

For Felicia, she said she wasn’t interested in that.

“I don’t want to eat it, I want to take it back,” Cipolla said. “We bought some other seafood. We are taking it all back.”
