SAN JOSE (KRON) — The woman who died Saturday night after crashing a stolen car into a light pole has been identified as 24-year-old Samantha Torres, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Officers tried to stop Torres near Fruitdale Avenue and Sherman Oaks Drive around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Torres drove away from the police but did not pursue her as she left the area, according to police.

A short time later, she crashed the stolen car into a light pole at Fruitdale Avenue and St. Elizabeth Drive.

Emergency crews pronounced Torres dead at the scene, according to police.
