UNION CITY (BCN) — A woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Union City that sent a bicyclist to the hospital.

Vinitha Rangachari, 42, of Fremont, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run with injury, police said.

Officers with the Union City Police Department responded Tuesday at 2:51 p.m. to a report of a hit-and-run collision on Alvarado-Niles Road at Dowe Avenue.

Police said a bicyclist was struck by a white van traveling west on Alvarado-Niles Road.

The driver of the van fled the scene without stopping.

The bicyclist, identified as Aries Yusi, 24, of Union City, suffered possible life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, police said.

Police said Rangachari later turned herself in at the Fremont Police Department.
