SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—District Attorney George Gascon announced Tuesday an El Sobrante woman has been arrested for selling counterfeit designer goods worth thousands of dollars.
Sarah Chong, 58, was arraigned Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty.
“Counterfeit goods weaken the intellectual property rights of designers,” Gascón said. “Consumers who are cheated out of authentic merchandise may not know that they bought a fake, and that means they often attribute defects in counterfeit goods to the genuine brand.”
Court records state Chong owned the Gift Center and Jewelry Mart on Brannan Street in San Francisco.
The store sold Burberry, Dior, Coach and Gucci items that were all counterfeit.
The Department of Homeland Security and the San Francisco Police Department seized all the counterfeit handbags, belts, scarves, wallets, sunglasses and jewelry that were sold inside the store.
All the goods authorities seized from Chong’s store is worth over $100,000.
Chong was arrested July 5 and released on a $15,000 bail.
She will appear in court again on September 29.
