Police arrested a 31-year-old woman Thursday morning for allegedly trying to kidnap a toddler in Mountain View.
At 4 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to an attempted kidnapping in the 400 block of Fairmont Avenue.
A grandmother who was with her daughter and her grandchild told officers another woman wearing a mask approached them and said she was going to take the child.
The suspect reached for the baby but the grandmother stopped her. The suspect then hit the grandmother in the head, according to police.
The woman threatened the child’s mother before driving away in a Toyota Camry, police said.
Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. Police say the victims were able to provide extremely detailed descriptions of both the suspect and her vehicle.
At around 2 a.m. Thursday, officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle in the Shell gas station parking on Rengstorff Avenue and Central Expressway.
Officers arrested the suspect, identified as transient Schauntel Gomez.
A search of her vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia, a white mask, and mail and packages from the area, police said.
