The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of the northern Sierra. 

The first of a series of storms will bring moderate to heavy snow to the mountains of Western Plumas County and the Northern Sierra Nevada Wednesday afternoon into the evening, according to the NWS. 

After a brief lull, the next storm is expected late Thursday into Friday, with snow levels expected to rise Friday afternoon.

Authorities warn that these storms will disrupt Thanksgiving holiday travel across Sierra passes.

Whiteout conditions are possible making traveling hazardous. 

Those who must travel through the mountains should be prepared for winter conditions

The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until Friday at 10 a.m.
