(KIMT) —  It might not be something you notice but there is a reason why flags are flown at half-staff for only half the day on Memorial Day.

We are told the flags will be lowered in the morning to help remember and honor the brave men and women who have served our country and given the ultimate sacrifice. However, at noon these flags are once again raised to their regular position to show the strength of the United States and how this country will keep fighting for our freedom. A local veteran we talked to says this is important to not only members of the military but every citizen. Joe Brown Sr., who served during the Vietnam War, says people should take a moment and look at the flag and understand what it means.
