PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A grand jury has indicted two people with the intentional murder of a man who was said to have been fleeing from an altercation earlier this summer.
Russell Orlando Courtier and Colleen Hunt are both charged with one count of murder and felony hit and run.
The investigation started in the late evening hours of Aug. 10 when Gresham Police responded to the 7-Eleven in the area of Southeast 187th and East Burnside on reports of a fight. When officers arrived, they heard sounds of a screaming coming from the north. An officer arrived and found the body of 19-year-old Larnell Malik Bruce down on the ground.
Bruce was suffering injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, according to Gresham Police. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The investigation revealed that Bruce was involved in a fight with Courtier and Hunt. It’s not clear what the fight was over. Witnesses told KOIN 6 News that Bruce was shoved into the store’s front.
Police said witnesses told them that Bruce was actively fleeing the store and the fight when Courtier got into his Jeep and drove onto the sidewalk to run Bruce down. Hunt reportedly encouraged her boyfriend to run down Bruce.
Both Courtier and Hunt are scheduled to be arraigned on the new grand jury indictment on Monday.
