SARATOGA (KRON) —  West Valley College will provide free tuition for Class of 2016 high school graduates who live within the area. The newly developed Community Grant will pay the tuition for the Fall 2016 semester for students who sign up for 12 units, according to school officials Wednesday.

The grant will help students get started on their transfer pathway to a four-year university, earning a college degree, or receiving a vocational certificate.

To qualify, students must be 2016 high school graduates from a public, private, or home school program. They must also live within the college service area, which is defined and served by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District and the Campbell Union High School District. High schools include: Boynton, Branham, Del Mar, Leigh, Los Gatos, Prospect, Saratoga, Valor, and Westmont.

West Valley College President Bradley Davis hails the grant as a way for the college to give back to the community, according to school officials.

“The Community Grant represents a strong partnership with our community and an unparalleled commitment to serve public education. We are so confident that you will succeed here, that your first semester’s tuition is on us,” commented Davis.
