Officials on Tuesday confirmed West Nile virus positive results in adult mosquitoes in the South Bay.
According to the Santa Clara County Vector Control District, the mosquitoes testing positive were collected in the following zip codes:
- 94085
- 94086
- 95051
- 95054
Those zip codes include parts of the cities of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara.
In an effort to prevent human cases of West Nile virus, officials have scheduled a truck-mounted mosquito control treatment in the area around the detection site.
Weather permitting, ground operations are scheduled for Thusday, July 26 at 11 p.m.
The treatment will last for around three hours and will be centered at Central Expressway and Semiconductor Drive.
The areas are bordered by:
- North — Lakeside Dr., E. Ahwanne Ave., Almaden Ave., Alvarado Ave., Amador Ave.
- East — Peterson Way, Garrett Dr., Oakmead Village Dr., Uranium Dr., Bowers Ave.
- South — Blue Sage Dr., Erica Dr., Gardenia Way, Fuchsia Dr., Lily Ave., Notre Dame Dr., Monroe St., Vincent Dr., Agate Dr.,
- West — San Juan Dr., N. Fair Oaks Ave., America Ave., E. Evelyn Ave., S. Wolfe Rd.
Officials say during the treatment operations, people do not need to relocate.
Those wishing to minimize exposure for family members or pets are advised to close windows and remain inside during the scheduled time period.
Officials say door hangers notifying residents of the scheduled mosquito treatment will be placed in affected neighborhoods starting Tuesday.
A notice is also being sent directly to the public in the treatment zip codes through AlertSCC and those subscribed to Nextdoor.
