MORGAN HILL (BCN) — Two people were arrested after a welfare check at a Wal-Mart in Morgan Hill Friday afternoon, according to police.
Police said officers arrived to the store located at 170 Cochrane Road at 2:35 p.m. to check on the welfare of a woman.
A store manager told officers that a woman had went into the restroom, locked the door and refused to come out.
The manager also informed officers the woman and a male suspect were seen by security guards cutting the tags off of merchandise in the store with a red knife.
Police said based on the information and the way the woman was acting, Morgan Hill firefighters were called to unlock the restroom door.
Once inside, officers located the woman, who had two backpacks full of items from the store and was wearing a white dress from Wal-Mart that she had not paid for.
The male suspect was contacted outside of the restroom and initially gave police a fake name, according to police.
Eventually, police arrested 19-year-old Alexias Wilson of Modesto on suspicion of commercial burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance, and 19-year-old Deangelo Webster of San Jose on suspicion of commercial burglary, providing a false name to a police officer and violation of probation.
