WATSONVILLE (BCN) — Police Saturday morning are investigating a Friday night stabbing in Watsonville that sent a man to the hospital.

Officers were in the area of E. Front and Union streets at 11:10 p.m. when a man who had just been stabbed flagged them down.

The victim told police he was walking from a nearby restaurant when a vehicle with several men inside pulled up next to him, according to police. The driver asked the victim where he was from, the victim said he wasn’t a gang member, and the suspect pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s wallet, police said.

The victim tried to run but was knocked to the ground and then stabbed several times in the back, police said. The suspects then fled the area in the vehicle.

The victim was flown to a Bay Area trauma center to be treated for his injuries.

The vehicle was described as a black four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Maxima.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Watsonville Police Department at (831) 471-1151.
