OAKLAND (KRON) — Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will not play in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil this summer.
Curry injured his knee against the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Quarter-Finals. He also hurt both his foot and knee earlier in the series. He missed two weeks due to the knee injury, but returned against the Portland in the Semi-Finals after missing multiple games. There have been reports that Curry is not playing at 100 percent and his injuries are still bothering him.
“After a great deal of internal thought and several discussions with my family, the Warriors and my representatives, I’ve elected to withdraw my name from the list of eligible players on Team USA’s preliminary roster for the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil. I recently informed Jerry Colangelo of this decision.”
The 6’3 guard was named the first unanimous MVP in NBA history after what many considered the best regular season of all-time.
The Warriors currently lead the Cleveland Cavaliers 2-0 in the NBA Finals. Game 3 will be on Wednesday in Cleveland.
