OAKLAND (BCN) — The man accused by police of leading officers on a vehicle pursuit in Oakland and then fleeing the scene of a crash, leaving his injured 6-year-old daughter in the wrecked vehicle, had a warrant issued for his arrest Friday, police said.

San Leandro police said Kelvin Govan, 29, is wanted for evading police, fleeing the scene of a crash causing injury, child endangerment and driving on a suspended license.

Govan is believed to be in Oakland, Antioch or Stockton, police said.

Officers were searching for suspects in an armed home invasion robbery that occurred Thursday morning in San Leandro.

Around 12:45 p.m., officers spotted a vehicle resembling the suspect vehicle on East 14th Street in Oakland, and when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit, police said.

After the crash, the driver, identified as Govan, and a passenger fled the vehicle, leaving Govan’s injured 6-year-old daughter behind, police said.

The passenger was apprehended following the crash, but Govan was not located.

The child was transported to the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash and is expected to make a full recovery, but she will require surgery, police said.

Police said Govan and the passenger were not connected to the home invasion robbery police were initially investigating.

Police said they still don’t know Govan’s motives for fleeing from officers.

The robbery in San Leandro occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in a home in the Washington Manor neighborhood.

Police said four armed men wearing masks entered the home and robbed the residents of cash, jewelry and other personal belongings before fleeing in a dark blue compact car.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call San Leandro police at (510) 577-3230.
