WALNUT CREEK (BCN) — The Walnut Creek Bart Station remains closed this afternoon after equipment on a track caught fire, a Bart spokeswoman said.

Bart officials first reported the closure in an advisory sent out at about 3:10 p.m.

Equipment on a track caught fire, which caused the closure, according to Bart spokeswoman Alicia Trost.

Firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded and extinguished the fire and a Bart crew is inspecting the tracks

before the station reopens.

Trost did not give an estimate of when the inspections will be complete. Bart officials have requested buses from other transit agencies to set up a bridge between Lafayette and the Pleasant Hill stations, but as of 3:40 p.m. nothing had been set up.

Passengers can travel on Bart between Pleasant Hill and Bay Point or from Lafayette through the rest of the system, Trost said.

One train was taken out of service. The fire was on the Oakland-bound track.
