WALNUT CREEK (BCN) — A barrel full of cooking oil spilled on a main Walnut Creek thoroughfare and caused a lane closure ahead of evening commute traffic today, according to police.
The barrel fell out of a truck near Lawrence Way and North Main Street around 4 p.m., causing an hour-long closure of the Lawrence Way onramp to Interstate Highway 680, according to Walnut Creek police.
Lt. Lanny Edwards said it was cooking oil that spilled and not hazardous materials. City crews are responding to the scene to put absorbent material on the liquid.
There was no crash or collision and no one was injured, Edwards said.
