SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Weather in the Sierra is pretty rough–and getting worse.

It is very cold, very snowy, and there’s a winter storm warning in effect on Thursday night.

Winds have been gusting to nearly 100 miles an hour over the Sierra Nevada ridge tops.

Traffic is slowing down even more than usual, and a major winter storm off the Pacific is moving in.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 4 a.m. Friday around Lake Tahoe, where up to 3 feet of snow is expected at the higher elevations.

Flood watches and warnings have been issued for many streams and rivers along the Nevada-California border.

The windy weather has brought down some power lines, especially in the Reno area.

Sounds like it might be a good weekend to just stay home.
