SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — During the holidays, thieves are stealing packages right from people’s doorsteps.

So, if you are a victim, what should you do?

To find out, KRON contacted some major delivery companies on how to handle this. Only UPS and FedEx responded.

UPS said you should work with the original shipper through the claims process to make the consumer whole again.

FedEx only answered that people should call customer service but did not say if it would reimburse every customer. And to recoup any losses, your credit card company might also be able to help.

San Francisco police said people should a report a stolen package as soon as possible.

The department has a team dedicated to reviewing security camera video and will open and investigation.
