SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—The California Highway Patrol took to social media Sunday with some advice on how to beat the heat.
KRON4’s Hermela Aregawi has safety tips.
As much fun as hot weather can be, the CHP has some safety concerns.
They tell KRON4 the heat can turn everyday regular mistakes deadly.
Some San Francisco streets were packed as people flocked to the coasts for some relief from record-breaking heat.
But even in San Francisco, temperatures reached into the high 80s.
“Well we did Oktoberfest last night and it was way hotter than I expected,” one San Francisco resident said. “And I didn’t move to San Francisco for this kind of heat. I moved away for this kind of heat.”
Another San Francisco resident we talked to visited the Peninsula where temperatures were even higher.
“The weather is scorching hot today,” the San Francisco resident said. “I was actually down in Hillsborough today it was even hotter there. It hit 100 degrees.”
But the heat is not just uncomfortable.
It can be deadly especially inside a car where temperatures can increase in a matter of seconds, so the CHP is reminding people to take extra precautions to make sure you don’t leave a pet or child in the car.
“Always check the back seat always make sure they haven’t fallen asleep that they haven’t just been quiet for half the ride, we have so much going on in our lives right now that we do tend to get distracted and we don’t people to be so distracted that they leave their child or a pet in the vehicle,” a CHP officer said.
A San Francisco resident described some of his concerns over the hot weather.
“Even just leaving my dog in the house in a place with no airconditioning is kind of worrisome,” the resident said.
Your vehicle may also need a little extra love to get through the heat.
“Regular maintenance on their car” the CHP officer said. “It’s not going to overheat. We have a lot more cars that are breaking down on the side of the road.”
The CHP also told KRON4 that they’re noticing more drivers are irritable in the heat.
They’re coming across more accidents that appear to involve some road rage, so stay as cool as much as possible.
