SAN JOSE (KRON) — Weather-related issues like mudslides and downed trees are a constant worry for rail systems across Northern California.
In San Jose Tuesday morning, Valley Transit Authority crews were out inspecting the tracks of the South Bay’s light rail system. They discovered and disposed of some tree limbs near the tracks where the light rail passes beneath some tall eucalyptus trees along Southwest Expressway.
The inspections are said to be routine but have been stepped up with the onset of El Nino, and they generally occur before and after storms.

VTA said the track inspections are similar to those conducted following an earthquake in the area.
