Video: Vallejo teacher says bad learning environment at high school forced him to quit after two weeks

VALLEJO (KRON) — Anthony Ferrantino said there was graffiti on the walls, no supplies, and no access to administrators to voice his concerns.

Those are the conditions the Bay Area teacher claimed forced him to quit teaching at Vallejo’s Jesse Bethel high school after just two weeks.

Ferrantino said it was not the type of learning environment for students. He has been a biology teacher for a long time, 24 years, and had never seen anything like it.

Recently, he accepted a job teaching at the school, however, when he got there, he said he was appalled by what he saw in the classroom.

“There was graffiti on the walls, gum on the floor, no microscopes — awful,” Ferrantino said.

In addition to that, Ferrantino said his classroom had no working air conditioning. He said he only taught here for two weeks and then quit, saying no one would listen to his concerns, especially over security.

“I resigned because no one would listen to my concerns,” Ferrantino said.

Now, he has this advice for parents who have kids that go to Jesse Bethel.

“Some of the students looked at me with a very sad face, saying they can’t learn here because the classroom is in a chaotic nature.”

And so far, the school board has not commented.
