LOWER LAKE (KRON) — The armorer of the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team for this year’s games returned to his Lower Lake home this week and found it had been destroyed in the Clayton Fire.
Matthew Porter and his wife bought the home in cash just days before going to the Olympics in Rio.
Porter is a three-time U.S. Olympic armorer. He helped maintain the team’s equipment during the games.
“Matthew made sure our weapons were in absolutely top shape and was critical in making sure that we did not miss a single point due to our equipment,” said Greg Massialas, head coach of the U.S. Olympic men’s foil team. “It is a shame that after he spent so much of his time making sure Team USA had the opportunities for success, he lost everything. A gofundme page has been set up.”
Porter’s longtime friends have set up a Go Fund Me account for him at https://www.gofundme.com/2kg64t5p.
