NOVATO (KRON) — Multiple law enforcement agencies are executing a “high risk tactical raid” at home in Novato on Thursday afternoon in connection with the murder of a high school student, authorities said.
A tweet sent the Marin County Sheriff’s Office around 2:10 p.m. reported the raid at a home near Rowland and Novato Boulevard.
Shortly after arriving at the home, a male walked out of the home and was taken into custody. Authorities said that the person, a 17-year-old boy, is being detained in connection with Wednesday’s murder.
Lynwood Elementary School was temporarily placed on lockdown and the neighborhood was ordered to shelter in place. The alert was lifted at around 3:20 p.m., according to police.
The raid at the home was one of two being coordinated by multiple law agencies.
And at around 3:30 p.m., Marin County sheriff tweeted, “Tactical teams moving to 1400 Block of Leafwood Drive Novato securing 2nd location continuing search for additional homicide suspects.”
A shelter in place in that area has been lifted.
A second homicide suspect is now in custody at the scene of tactical operation on Leafwood Drive, Novato.
Investigators believe the Novato High School student was murdered by three other teenagers. One suspect is still on the loose.
A young woman who lives in the Leafwood complex said the suspect arrested is a Novato High School student.
“I just saw him coming down the stairs with his hands in the air. I’m shocked. He seemed like a good kid. I didn’t know he did anything wrong,” Karen Ochoa said.
Novato police had been searching for the three suspects wanted for a deadly double shooting that killed a Novato High School student and injured another Wednesday night.
