CONCORD (KRON) — A thief stole a vehicle from a non-profit organization dedicated to helping those in need last month.
But on early Monday morning, that vehicle was found abandoned not far from where it was stolen. It was not left in the best condition.
The lock on the driver’s side door was busted, the running board on the passenger’s side was destroyed, and there were several dents along the exterior. And the interior was completely trashed.
It was found abandoned close to the parking lot of the Willows Shopping Center in Concord.
“It was terrible and has been terrible because every day we are out in the community picking up food donations, picking up our barrels from different businesses, churches, and schools,” Monument Crisis Center spokeswoman Sandra Scherer.
The truck was stolen on Feb. 15 from in front of the headquarters of the Monument Crisis Center, a nonprofit at 1990 Market St. that provides food and other services to low-income families in Contra Costa County, according to police.
The truck, a white 2006 Ford F-350 that had been donated by PG&E, was found early Monday morning unoccupied and with moderate damage, police said. Investigators are still seeking the person or people responsible for the theft.
The Monument Crisis Center is accepting donations to pay for repairs to the vehicle, which is used to pick up donations and purchase food across the region, according to the nonprofit.
