SACRAMENTO (KRON) — A California Highway Patrol officer is lucky to be alive on Saturday near Sacramento.

The officer was responding to two accidents Friday morning when his patrol car was demolished.

According to officials, the officer had parked his vehicle between a railroad crossing arm and the train tracks.

A train then came barreling down the tracks and totaled the patrol car.

The officer was not in the vehicle at the time.

A CHP spokesperson said just like anybody else, the officer should not have parked his vehicle inside the crossing arms.

As of now, no disciplinary action has been taken against the officer.
