SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Fire crews rescued a swimmer Thursday afternoon who was reportedly bitten by a sea lion, the San Francisco Fire Department said.
Fire officials tweeted at 2:05 p.m. about a bay rescue that happened near Pier 45.
One person was pulled out of the water with injuries from a sea lion bite, officials said.
An officer applied a tourniquet to the swimmer who came off the sailboat.
The 56-year-old man was swimming alone out of the Aquatic Cove with no wetsuit.
The swimmer said a sea lion kept swimming up to him, so he splashed it on the face. Then, the sea lion bit him.
A nearby sailboat saw it happen and picked him up, called marine police, and brought him in.
Police say the swimmer seemed upbeat and more concerned about leaving his clothes on the beach.
The victim was treated on Hyde Street Pier near Aquatic Park off Jefferson Street.
The man was badly bleeding in his upper arm.
Further details were not made available.
