GILROY (KRON) — A family in Gilroy woke up Wednesday to what looks like a swimming pool in their backyard.

The El Niño-fueled storm flooded the back of Sarah Castaneda’s house on Mesa Road overnight and early Wednesday morning.

Castaneda was worried that the flooding would reach her house, but the rain stopped before it could reach her back door.

The pool is about one foot deep and almost covers her entire backyard.

Castaneda grabbed a pump and began pumping the water out of her yard and onto the street.

One of her neighbors called to complain that she was “wasting water.”

The woman said that her home is fairly new and none of her neighbors have had this problem. She now realizes she has a major drainage problem on her hands.
