HERCULES (KRON) — A shooting on Interstate Highway 80 in Hercules caused a crash and sent one man to the hospital Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. on the highway just west of state Highway 4, according to the CHP.
A 25-year-old man was was driving a black Nissan Altima on eastbound I-80 when a white sedan pulled up on his right side.
Gunshots were fired from the white sedan and struck the Nissan four times.
The driver of the Nissan was hit by the gunfire twice in his leg causing him to swerve, hit the concrete center divider and roll several times.
The white sedan fled the scene. Details on the type of car or the suspect is unknown.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to John Muir hospital in Walnut Creek where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
The freeway was temporarily shut down to collect and process evidence. I-80 reopened around 1 a.m.
This is an ongoing investigation and it is unknown if this freeway shooting has any association with other recent shootings.
Pittsburg police said the shooting was targeted, but have not elaborated on the motive in that case either.
