FREMONT (BCN) — Police are asking the public to avoid an area in Fremont after a chemical spill took place, Friday morning.
According to the Fremont police, crews received a call at 8:59 a.m. after a garbage truck diver called about a gaseous chemical reaction taking place in the vehicle at 34309 Newton Court.
The driver who works for Waste Republic Company picked up trash from a garbage bin, after dumping it with the rest of the waste a chemical reaction took place.
Police, fire and the Fremont fire hazardous material team is on the scene.
Crews are trying to determine the cause of the chemical reaction.
The driver was taken to the hospital, after having difficulty breathing.
Residents are being asked to stay indoors and close all windows until further notice.
As of 10:36 a.m. the Fremont fire department hazardous material team tested the truck, and has issued the all clear for residents staying indoors.
