SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—A man was out on his kayak Saturday morning when he saw a baby shark just a few feet away from him.

We first showed you the video Saturday night on the KRON4 News at 10.

On Sunday, the man who sent it to us met with KRON4’s Alecia Reid to share his shark tale.

How close it too close?

It started out as a pretty normal day.

Like he does every Saturday, Brady Fell suited up and got into his kayak from South Beach Harbor at Pier 40 except this weekend.

“I see a lot of sea lions,” Fell said. “I definitely see a lot of birds. I’ve seen porpoises on occasion, but i’ve never seen a shark.”

About a mile and a half out into the San Francisco Bay.

“I thought it was in distress,” he said. “I didn’t know why it stayed on the surface so long.”

It stuck around long enough for the father of 2 to get his cell phone out.

“It didn’t spook or go under the water,” Fell said. “It pretty much just stayed right there.”

He got as close to it as he possibly could.

“I got a little nervous when it went right underneath my kayak,” he said. “I was a little bit freaked out about it.”

Wildlife experts advise staying away from sharks,

“It was pretty small,” Fell said.

But the video was something the longtime kayaker wanted to capture.

“I didn’t think my wife would’ve believed me if I didn’t have a video of it,” Fell said.

After seeing it, he says his wife was extremely nervous but also excited for him.

Boaters out on the water this weekend were also thrilled….

“You’re bound to see on eventually if you’re out in the water long enough,” one boater said.

Thinking about what they’d love to spot while out and about.

“We’d rather see whales,” one man said.

It took Brady Fell five years to see a shark.

For Fell, it was a once in a lifetime moment that he had to capture.
