SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco Police officer is recovering Saturday morning after he was shot in the head Friday night.
Police responded to Lakeshore Shopping Center in the Sunset District where a man was causing a disturbance.
When officers arrived the suspect fired several shots grazing one of the officers in the head. The suspect then fled into Stern Grove.
Officers cornered the suspect in bushes at 28th Avenue and Vicente Street. As the suspect attempted to flee still holding the gun the SWAT team used a flash bang device to take the person into custody.
The injured the officer is in critical condition but conscious.
.@OfficerManfredi says @sfpd officer shot in head will survive. ‘very lucky’ 1/2 inch closer and it’d be a different story.

Tonight, in the line of duty, a San Francisco police officer was shot by a suspect with a gun. I am with the officer at San Francisco General Hospital. When he was shot, the officer was responding to a call related to a mentally disturbed individual.
I cannot provide any more detail or make any comment related to the officer’s medical condition at this time, but we are praying that he survives.
