OAKLAND (KRON) — Senator Bernie Sanders continues to criss-cross the Golden State trying to garner support for his presidential bid.

The Democratic underdog headlined two events in Oakland on Monday–one at a church and one at Frank Ogawa Plaza.

For the most part, it was a peaceful rally. Supporters in Oakland were very excited to see Bernie Sanders and many waited in line for hours to get in.

But some people at the second event at Frank Ogawa Plaza disrupted Sanders’ speech.

Several people, at least five, were detained after disrupting Bernie Sanders speech at Oakland’s Frank Ogawa Plaza.

“We don’t get intimidated easily,” Sanders said.

At one point, Sanders suddenly looked startled at the podium as two Secret Service agents pulled him away.

Animal rights activists said they rushed the stage at the rally. It is not clear if those detained will face any charges.

Over a dozen animal rights activists with the network Direct Action Everywhere just rushed the stage of a Bernie Sanders Rally outside Oakland City Hall in California, demanding the candidate promise action to secure legal rights for nonhuman animals. Earlier, the democratic candidate spoke to a packed house in a historic African American church on Monday.

People were feeling the “Bern” at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland. People were waiting in a long line for hours to get a chance to see and hear the senator from Vermont make his pitch to gain their support for his presidential candidacy.

Sen. Sanders said he believes that number is unprecedented. People at the packed sanctuary heard Sanders touch on multiple subjects including of mass incarceration and the need for jobs

And as he sees it, the connection between the two.
