SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON) — A Santa Clara County jail inmate has died after he was transferred to the hospital on Monday, according to sheriff’s office Sgt. James Jensen.

The 36-year-old male inmate was booked into jail last Thursday with no bail for an outstanding warrant, Jensen said.

During booking, the medical staff found out the man had “several pre-existing medical conditions.” He was then placed in the infirmary where he got 24-hour medical care, Jensen said.

Four days later, medical staff found he needed to be transferred to Valley Medical Center. At around 8:23 p.m. on Monday, the inmate died at Valley Med due to a medical emergency, according to Jensen.

“The Sheriff’s Office is following standard protocol for an in custody death that includes, but is not limited to; deploying Sheriff’s Office Detectives, notifying the District Attorney’s Office as well as the Medical Examiner Coroner’s Office,” Jensen said in a press release.

No other information has been released.
