SAN JOSE (KRON) — A San Jose police officer who set off a nationwide firestorm with controversial tweets has apologized for the offensive messages.
Officer Philip White called his actions “inappropriate.” One of the most controversial tweets White sent out read, “threaten me or my family and I will use my God-given and law appointed right and duty to kill you.”
White was fired last October but was reinstated in February after a closed independent arbitration hearing.
Meeting in a closed session on Tuesday, the San Jose City Council dropped its support of the appeal of his reinstatement.
In a statement, Mayor Sam Liccardo said White’s tweets were disgraceful and reiterated his support for the chief’s decision to fire White.
Police Union Chief Paul Kelly said it is time to move on.
