SAN JOSE (KRON) — San Jose city leaders addressed some complaints coming from residents of the city after the election of Donald Trump.
Police Chief Eddie Garcia, along with mayor Sam Liccardo, say the police department will not enforce federal immigration laws.
The city has not deemed itself a sanctuary city, but the chief says deportation is not the department’s role.
Garcia also says he does not want minority residents to hesitate to report crimes out of fear of getting deported.
Garcia says the department does not ask victims or witnesses of crimes about their immigration status, and it will stay that way.
