SAN JOSE (KRON) — If you find yourself in a situation where someone is pointing a gun at you, and that someone is a cop, you should probably do as you’re told and stay alive.
It happened to a San Jose city councilman, and he is sharing his story to KRON to contradict the advice of another politician.
San Jose City Councilman Raul Peralez has revealed that he was once mistaken as an intruder in his own home, after triggering a silent alarm, and was held at gunpoint by a San Jose police officer.
Cooler heads prevailed and the situation was resolved.
Peralez said he disclosed the close encounter in a Facebook post critical of Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, who said anyone, including police, who pointed a gun at her would receive the same treatment in return, encouraging others to do likewise.
Himself a former cop and concealed weapon permit holder, Peralez said he was not armed that day back in December but said even if he were, throwing down on a police officer pointing a gun at you is the wrong thing to do.
Peralez was once involved with the independent police auditor and gun violence outreach efforts.
