SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — Nearly 10 years after his death, homicide detectives are asking the public for help in solving the 2006 murder of a high school student in San Francisco’s North of Panhandle neighborhood.

Aubrey Abrakasa, 17, was shot and killed at Grove and Baker streets at 3:14 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2006.

The shooting occurred about seven blocks away from Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School, where Abrakasa was due to begin his senior year a short time later.

Shortly after the shooting, police said they were looking for two men they believed had approached Abrakasa and fired on him before fleeing the area.

However, no arrests have been made and police have not released information on a motive. Homicide inspectors have said there is no indication Abrakasa was affiliated with a street gang.

The San Francisco Mayor’s Office has offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution in Abrakasa’s death.

Abrakasa’s mother, Paulette Brown, has become a strong advocate both for her son’s case and for the families of other murder victims.

Brown will be at Grove and Baker streets on Friday at 2 p.m. handing out fliers to members of the public, along with San Francisco police, in an effort to generate new leads in the case.

Anyone with information on Abrakasa’s death is asked to call the SFPD Homicide Detail or the department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444, or text-a-tip to TIP411, beginning the text with “SFPD.”
