PINOLE (KRON) — A shooting reportedly took place on Interstate 80 westbound near Appian Way in Pinole at around 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, according to Hercules Mayor Dan Romero.

He said he is disappointed that the local authorities were not immediately notified by CHP about the reported shooting.

This is the latest in the string of shooting investigations to plague East Bay freeways.

“How many are we going to have before we have cameras, high-resolution cameras, shotspotters, and license plate readers along Interstate 80?” Romero said.

There have been more than 30 shootings on East Bay highways in Alameda and Contra Costa counties since November.

The California Highway Patrol does confirm they are investigating a report of a shooting that occurred on I-80 West just east of Appian Way.

The California Highway Patrol has yet to find evidence of a reported shooting along Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole on Tuesday, a CHP spokesman said on Wednesday.

Officers were unable to find victims, shell casings or bullet holes, CHP Officer Jonathan Fransen said.

Despite a man reporting that he heard a possible gunshot and a person in a van brandishing a firearm next to him, investigators have yet to confirm that a shooting occurred, Fransen said.
