DANVILLE (KRON) — Burglars targeted several homes over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
The break-ins occurred in the usually quiet East Bay town of Danville. And investigators tell KRON there was a common thread in some of the most-recent cases.
Multiple front doors were kicked in by burglars over the holiday weekend. Five break-ins were reported, along with at least one attempted burglary that was thwarted by a home alarm system, according to Danville police.
The most-recent burglary happened Sunday morning here on St. Norbert Drive.
Gary Smith said he has lived in this quiet area for the past 18 years.
“Like I said, the neighbors really watch out for each other,” Smith said. “Maybe it was a chance because it was the holidays and people were away?”
Investigators said they are following up on some leads but have limited information on possible suspects.
Danville police said patrols have been increased in this area, and they are checking with neighboring cities to see if there are any similar burglary cases involving front doors being kicked in.
