ALAMEDA (KRON) — Rain is causing some major damage to the U.S.S. Hornet in Alameda.

Over time, the wood on the flight deck has become porous, allowing rains to penetrate and cause damage below to the captain’s area.

Those who care for the ship have been collecting donations to pay for recoating the deck and preserving the museum.

With El Nino and its expected heavy rains, there is increasing concern and a push to get the work done.

Both residents and crews are preparing for the upcoming storm expected to hit Alameda.
